Department News
Global Change Science Initiative

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (E&PS) initiated a research and teaching program in Global Change Science in November 2007.The goal of this initiative is to promote innovative research and teaching at Johns Hopkins University in areas of Earth Science that underlie global change phenomena and to integrate these activities into the University-wide initiative on global change issues.

Recent developments under this initiative include:

(1) Appointed several new faculty in E&PS whose research focuses on the fundamental Earth Science problems critical to understanding global change,

(2) Created a new postdoctoral fellowship (the Cormack fellowship) to be awarded to a post-doctoral student pursuing research in the field of Global Change,

(3) Created a new graduate focus in Global Change Science, and

(4) Created a new interdisciplinary Global Environmental Change and Sustainability undergraduate major.

Future planned activities include further hires and formation of partnerships within the Hopkins community and with neighboring institutions.
